Well known American organ professor is seeking a young Russian student who is interested in studying organ on scholarship at Western Connecticut State University in Danbury, Connecticut, USA not far from New York City. Students should be between the ages of 15 and 17 (not older), play the piano well, and ideally should be able to speak some English. It is not necessary that the student play the organ already.
The student would enter the university in the fall of 2003, since at least a full year will be required to make the necessary arrangements.

The student will live with a host family and have other costs of study provided on scholarship. There is a shortage of organists in the USA, and because of that shortage there are many job opportunities.

Professor Stephen Roberts of Western Connecticut State University has had many successful pupils who have won important prizes and competitions. He will be visiting St. Petersburg in late January during the university vacation and playing concerts in that area. Stephen RobertsЎЄBiographical sketch

A native of Mississippi, Stephen Roberts was a Pi Kappa Lambda graduate of the University of Oklahoma. He also studied at Yale University, where he was the first student admitted to the Yale Institute of Sacred Music and received the Bozyan Prize in organ. He received a Fulbright fellowship from the U.S. government for study in Vienna, Austria, where he studied at the Hochschule fЁ№r Musik und darstellende Kunst with the late Anton Heiller. In addition to Heiller, his organ teachers have included Mildred Andrews, Robert Baker, Michael Schneider, Gerre Hancock, and Peter Planyavsky. He also studied harpsichord with Ralph Kirkpatrick, Isolde Ahlgrimm, and Spencer Norton. Stephen Roberts has held a number of church and academic positions in the Northeast; for twelve years he was the Director of Music at Berkeley Divinity School at Yale University. Currently he is Director of Music at St. Peter RC Church in Danbury, Connecticut, and is instructor of organ at Western Connecticut State University. He is also a successful teacher whose students have won many prizes, awards, and competitions. Stephen Roberts has been heard in recital in twelve countries on three continents; his account of his five concert tours of Russia and the Baltics appeared in 1999 in the The American Organist magazine. A featured performer at conventions of the American Guild of Organists and Organ Historical Society, he has also written articles for professional and scholarly journals, both in Europe and the U.S.A. He is also an active contributor to PIPORG-L, an electronic mailing list for those interested in the organ. He is a member of the AGOЎЇs national committee, Committee On the New Organist (CONO), that oversees the Pipe Organ Encounter project for young organists. Stephen Roberts is represented in the U.S.A. by Concert Artist Cooperative concert management.
